Spanish outdoor furniture brand Vondom is stepping up its presence in the USA. In December 2016, it opened its third American store, following on from New York and Los Angeles.
With more than 600 square metres, the new flagship is in the edgy Wynwood neighbourhood, Miami’s street-art mecca. The interiors have been designed by Spain’s Ramón Esteve. Defined by curved lines and an industrial style, the design language uses rounded corners to create continuity between the façade and the showroom inside. Circular geometries invade the space vertically and horizontally.
Large cylindrical decks showcase iconic Vondom pieces. The Surf sun chaise and Vela, Bum Bum and Flat collections generate a colour-structured landscape of monochromatic islands, arranged on designer rugs created by brand designers. Round mirrors hang above the decks, reflecting these brightly-coloured items against the deep, black ceiling. Circular shelf units of differing diameters provide spatial definition and showcase the new Vondom chairs, hydraulic stools and planters, set against a mirror backdrop. A central cylinder houses the toilets, kitchen and conference room, connected to the space around it and acting as a graphic support for the brand. Customer service desks are clearly identified by backlit images of Vondom furniture collections.
Outside, the strikingly colourful façade is the work of Okuda San Miguel, winner of the Miami Wall Art Project. Featuring two flamencos – one of the city’s typical icons – the effect is bold and innovative, yet elegant at the same time. Smart and sophisticated, the new showroom is set to become an obligatory hangout for lovers of Florida’s state-of-the-art design.
