Hayón leads Lladró into surreal territory
Decorative porcelain company Lladró is continuing to update its product range and appeal to younger, more adventurous audiences with a further collaboration with Jaime Hayón.
Spain’s boy wonder of contemporary design with a surreal twist has designed a new collection for the company, called, appropriately enough, Fantasy. As you can see from the pieces shown, the collection is designed to elicit strong reactions – and would certainly make any conventional china dogs on granny’s mantelpiece
cower in terror. Lladró says the Fantasy collection demonstrates the ‘perfect fusion between the artistic quality of the brand and the magic of the unexpected that Hayón injects into his work.’
Lladró creates its figurines in The City of Porcelain in Valencia, a large complex where visitors are able to watch the company’s artisans at work. It also houses the Lladró
Museum, which contains not only porcelain pieces, but also one of Spain’s most important private collections of paintings. It has works by el Greco, Rubens, Pinazo and Sorolla among others.
