Poulpe, a lamp which captures light
Inspired by the way octopuses engulf their prey, the Poulpe lamp delicately, subtly envelops the bulb it encloses. Seamlessly joined to the cone-shaped shade are the lamp’s four legs which indirectly distribute the light by reflecting light off them. The underside of the lamp is made of opalescent glass and the milky light projected from inside the shade evokes the opening of a sea cave.
In the words of its designer, Oriol Llahona: ‘It’s a piece that seems to be neutral, but very soon after you realise there’s more to it than you think and that its apparent normality is subverted.’ Llahona has created a collection which includes table, pendant and standard lamp versions, all made of a rigid polyurethane foam and finished in lacquer. Poulpe is available in three colours: high-gloss black, white and grey.
Estiluz, which has just celebrated its 40th year in business, has, over this period, consistently striven to create beautifully designed, high quality lights. In order to do so, it has relied on the talents of the many high-profile designers it has collaborated with. Ample evidence of this can be found in some of its latest offerings – unveiled at the Euroluce 09 lighting exhibition at the most recent Milan Furniture Fair – among them the Infiore collection, designed by Lagranja, the Tulipa table lamp by King & Miranda and Bubble wall light by Oriol Guimerá.
