Rut lamp by Luján+Sicilia
The lamp Rut is one of the latest creations produced by Spanish company Luján+Sicilia and dreamt up by the young Swedish designer Ola Wihlborg.
Made of laser-cut steel and avalable in three different lacquer finishes – black, white and gold – the sculpture has great visual impact. It comes in two sizes – with a 45cm or 88cm diameter.
Luján+Sicilia is a young business founded in 2001. It has had its own showroom in Madrid since 2005. Its designs are highly original so it’s not surprising that these have been quickly embraced by such disparate markets as Europe, the US and Japan. The business philosophy of its founders Francisco Luján y Jaime Sicilia is unusual.
As they put it, ‘To appreciate the ritualistic aspect of objects, to rediscover and recuperate old values are all starting points for creating something new. We like experimenting with lighting using new materials and investigating the contrasts of light and shade produced by geometric objects. We want to make functional lights – that is to say lamps which are characterful, enigmatic, charming and also a little nostalgic and humorous, as well as lights which, by the by, also provide light.’
