Stua’s furniture in Bowes Museum
The Bowes Museum, in County Durham in the UK, is a large museum housed in an extraordinary, 19th-century building. One of Britain’s most acclaimed art galleries, it features a fabulous art collection which includes gems by El Greco, Goya and Canaletto, among other illustrious artists. And its interiors are enriched by the adventurous contrast they strike between their classical heritage and sympathetic inclusion of contemporary design.
And now Stua has contributed to the latter by providing this wonderful museum’s café with its Zero tables and Gas chairs (the latter have a leather seat, mesh backrest and matt chrome frame).
Stua has also supplied furniture to other major galleries around the world, such as the Milwaukee Museum of Art, the Acropolis Museum in Athens, the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo and Spain’s Chillida-Leku Museum and iconic City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
Stua was founded in 1983 by Jesús Gasca with the aim of creating, manufacturing and distributing a collection of timeless contemporary furniture. Its style – Scandinavian in its simplicity but with a touch of Spanish verve – closely mirrors that of its designers. It comprises pieces which, though designed to be mixed and matched, form a coherent whole. Although simple, these have a recognisable character: indeed, whether we’re talking about the company’s Globus and Gas chairs, the Malena and Nube armchairs or the outdoor furniture collection Deneb, all bear Stua’s unmistakeable stamp.
