Karim Rashid designs Spaghetti for Vondom
High-profile designer Karim Rashid has collaborated once again with cutting-edge Valencia-based design company Vondom. Following on from his other collections for the same company – Vertex, Doux, Lava and Vlek– Rashid has created his Spaghetti range of mix-and-match planters with metal stands in various vibrant colours or monochrome tones. As its name suggests, it’s a playful idea.
The planters comprise a skeletal stand which raises the plants – contained in a solid pot – high off the ground. Projecting the pot into the air, the design looks transparent and light, and puts the focus on the plants themselves. The planter comes in two sizes – 84 or 105cm tall – and is ideal for wide outdoor spaces.
Vondom is one of Spain’s most experimental companies. Its most recent collaboration with Rashid highlights once again two of its main hallmarks: collaborations with well-known designers (notably a collection of vases designed by Teresa Sapey) and a commitment to creating original, eye-catching pieces.
Born in Cairo to Egyptian and British parents and raised in Canada, Rashid is one of the most high-profile designers of his generation. He’s created over 3,000 designs in more than 35 countries.
