Design Plus awards 2012 at Light+Building
Two Spanish companies won a product design award: Vibia for its Skan light by Lievore Altherr Molina and Arkoslight for its Lex Blue by Arkoslight diseño.
Lex Blue is a recessed LED light fitting made out of polycarbonate and aluminium. It incorporates a system of indirect perimetric lighting which lights up the reflector and produces an effect of soft blue light.
According to the organisers: “the awards demonstrate the innovative potential of Light + Building and offer exciting insights into our exhibitors’ future-oriented products. In addition to design quality and overall concept, the competition also assesses the innovativeness and technical and ecological quality of the products entered.
This year, we received 239 entries from 128 companies from 26 countries. They came from the lighting, electrical engineering and home and building automation sectors.
28 products survived the critical scrutiny of our expert jury and can now boast the Design Plus seal of quality.”
Additionally, a Young Professionals competition took place: “ As in 2010, we invited students and graduates of industrial and product design and architecture, as well as interior architecture, to take part in a competition for young people. I am very pleased to say that 84 young designers from 20 countries sent in 106 entries. Altogether, the jury selected 14 entries.”
Spanish designer Pablo Figuera (Madrid) was a prize winner in the Young Professionals category with his Folio lamp. (www.pablofiguera.com)
