Kite, a new product by Arturo Álvarez
One of Spain’s most innovative lighting companies once again demonstrated its flair for brilliant ideas when it launched its new collections for 2012 at Light&Building, an architecture and technology trade fair, held recently in Frankfurt, Germany.
One light, called Kite, which has curvilinear, irregular forms and can be fixed to walls or ceilings in a whimsical yet controlled fashion, caught our eye in particular.
It looks rather like a kite flying in the sky – hence its name, of course – and casts a warm, cheerful glow in any space.
Other products unveiled by Árturo Alvarez, which is based in Galicia, northwest Spain, include Spline, a metallic piece brimming with character, designed by Spanish architecture and town-planning studio A-cero. Its strictly minimalist, soberly architectural style contrasts dramatically with another comparatively exuberant, playful Arturo Álvarez design called Tina.
Arturo Álvarez’s designs can be described in a thousand ways – save as conventional. They always strive to experiment with different materials, such as silicone, metallic mesh or plywood. The resulting designs are invariably both innovative and beautiful, well-considered and durable – they transcend mere fashion. Sensitivity, ingenuity, innovation and experimentation – these are all hallmarks of this forward-thinking brand.
