We looked out for a selection of pieces in red among recent examples of Spanish design. Our intention is to transmit the energy and optimism this colour radiates to our readers.
Red can strike a note of joy which makes even the most clean-lined and minimalist for reception areas and other public spaces positively ooze energy. The colour makes other designs – by Resol, Stone Designs, Capdell, Enea, Calma, Andreu World, Sancal, Grassoler and Viccarbe look very daring.
Gabriel Teixidó’s Oh! for Enea. Contract furniture needn’t look serious.
Resol’s Lisboa chair, for outdoor spaces, is both robust and comfortable.
Stone Designs’s Rita chair for RS Barcelona has plenty of character.
Two upholstered chairs by Capdell – the naturally elegant Ymay and Gabriel Teixidó’s piece Moon.
Resol’s Bob sofa – curvaceous and ultra-modern.
Serra & de la Rocha’s Gat armchair for Calma, for indoor and outdoor use.
Sancal’s Tea armchair – funky and comfy
Piero Lissoni’s Season sofa for Viccarbe – organic-looking and very original.
Andreu World’s upholstered Wok armchair – both practical and comfortable.
Gabriel Teixidó’s Opalina armchair and pouffe for Grassoler.
Red lighting injects a note of passion as well as originality into any interior. And the designs we discovered allow for a great variety of styles: romantic, geometric, minimalist, funky… By Lampister, LZF, Arturo Álvarez, Almerich, Bover, Fambuena, Marset, Uno Design, Santa & Cole, Estiluz, Carpyen and Evaluz, these have one thing in common: they take centre stage in any space they grace.
Lampister’s Widow light: sophisticated and elegant.
Two spectacular designs; Luis Eslava’s Armadillo light for LZF and Arturo Álvarez’s Miuu design.
Bover’s Mos light – warm, geometric lighting.
Nahtrang Isamu design for Carpyen.
Grace table light by Antonio Minervini for Fambuena.
Polis – a very urban collection by Ramón Esteve for Uno Design.
Luis Eslava’s Tría light for Almerich – an updated classic.
Almerich’s Alux light-cum-bedside table – ideal for reading with before going to sleep.
Air, Ray Power’s outdoor light made of polywood for LZF.
Marset’s highly versatile design, Olivia.
Penta a pendant light by David García for Evaluz
Mitzy, a light by King & Miranda Design for Estiluz.
In the field of colour therapy, red is a powerful colour, associated with activity and strength. It is also associated with the human heart – as well as all things spiritual and creative. These rug designs by Gan Rugs, Nanimarquina,Alpujarreña and Now Carpets provide ample proof of the imagination of their creators, who reinterpret traditional ideas or take risks with on-trend ideas.
Oriental in inspiration: Sandra Figuerola’s Arabesco for Gan Rugs.
Martí Guixé’s News rug for Nanimarquina.
Lis Beltrán’s Charlie rug for Alp de Alpujarreña.
Funghi rug by Francesc Rifé for Now Carpets – original and easy to personalise.
So there you have it. If you want to feel invigorated, cast out the creams, banish the blues, say goodbye to greens and reward your home with red!
