RAMON ESTEVE ESTUDIO DE ARQUITECTURA

Ramón Esteve

Ramón Esteve

Ramon Esteve, architectural furniture

Qualities such as continuity, purity and a love of pared-down forms characterise his projects.

Based in his studio in the El Carmen area of Valencia, Esteve (Valencia, 1964) has carried out dizzyingly diverse spectrum of projects, ranging from the centre for biomedical investigation housed in the city’s iconic Cuidad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Science), designed by Santiago Calatrava, and public buildings used for health, education, culture, offices, convention centres as well as terraced housing, which have had extensive press coverage, and various furniture collections.

A desire to maximise the potential of materials and achieve aesthetic unity as well as his all-consuming attention to detail are constant themes running through Esteve’s work.

Indeed, he strives to make his buildings and interiors combine to create a coherent whole, so much so that he also designs furniture for his interiors. Indeed this has how many of his pieces of furniture have originally been conceived before being put into production later by such leading Spanish design and homeware companies as Gandia Blasco, Viccarbe, Joquer, Vibia, Vondom, Dynamobel and Andreu World. For Andreu World, Esteve has recently designed the charming sun lounger, Code.

He is currently working for the international hotel chain Nh, which has seen him create the interiors for such recently opened hotels as the Nh Palacio de Tepa and Nh Mejía Lequerica in Madrid. With input too from the chef Ferrán Adriá, Esteve has, for the same chain, also designed Nhube's external spaces.

At his Valencia studio, which was founded in 2001, he undertakes projects for private clients and public spaces, along with his multidisciplinary team of architects, interior designers and designers, all fine art graduates or business specialists, In addition to being a practising architect and designer, Esteve has also been tutor in the department of architectural projects at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Valencia (Valencia Architecture School) since 2005.

Esteve’s work has received many accolades. His ADN sofa, created for the company Joquer, recently scooped the ADCV Gold Prize of 2009 in the domestic furnishings category – a prize awarded by the Asociación de Diseñadores de la Comunidad Valenciana (Association of Designers in the Valencian Community). He also won third prize for his work on the Barrio Avanzado of Toledo (the Spanish city’s new Santa Maria de Benquerencia district) as well as first prize for his fine-tuning and construction of the general hospital in Ontinyent in the province of Valencia.
