BD'S SHOWTIME COLLECTION IN ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST RESTAURANTS

The Oud Sluis restaurant in the Netherlands

Sluis (Netherlands)
29 September 2009

Company: BD Barcelona Design

Product/Designer: Showtime collection/Jaime Hayón

Nudging the border of Belgium and the Low Countries, in the small town of Sluis, is the restaurant Oud Sluis, possibly the most gastronomic establishment in the entire Netherlands. In 2007, it was recognised as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world.

In a very smart move, this last summer, Sergio Herman, its renowned three Michelin-starred chef, decided to renovate the place by converting it into a modern restaurant with a minimalist interior.

In order to do so, he hired the services of one of Belgium’s most talented interior designers, Lieven Musschoot, who has dreamt up a space which manages to be both cosy and modern. It is not only perfectly in synch with modern times but more importantly with the restaurant concept which Herman, who has been greatly inspired by his travels to New York, Marrakech, London, Ibiza and Barcelona, had in mind.

The resulting design is flawless. An interior which is harmonious and elegant, it combines the neutral shades of its black and white furniture with glass and leather and a warm gold tone covering the walls.

The most striking furniture in the restaurant are the chairs supplied by BD Design. Based in Barcelona, BD Design is regarded as one of the most prestigious Spanish companies in the design world on an international scale. The pieces in the restaurant are BD’s Showtime armchairs and easy chairs designed by Jaime Hayón, the most dynamic designer on the Spanish design scene. These chairs create an intriguing contrast between pure classicism and extreme modernity, which sees plastics combined with black quilted upholstery, high-gloss, sleek white lacquered wood and the tradicional, high quality ceramics.

As well as furniture by BD Design, the restaurant boasts pieces from other big brands – Poliform, which has supplied tables, Moroso (chairs), Weber and Dark (lighting) and Maxalto (accessories).

With this project, the clients of Oud Sluis will not only treat their tastebuds to incredibly well-cooked and delicious dishes but also feast their eyes on an interior where every detail has been carefully considered.
