Furnished entirely with Spanish pieces
Nueva York (United States of America)
21 June 2010
Company: ARCHI-TECTONICS
Since May 13, the new lounge of Manhattan’s Tribeca Grand Hotel has been entirely furnished by Spanish pieces. So now products by 16 Spanish brands – leading companies in the furniture, lighting, carpet and decorative objects sectors – grace New York’s iconic hotel.
The project has been overseen by the high-profile, Dutch-born designer Winka Dubbelman, Director of the architectural studio Archi-Tectonics, who has been essentially inspired by the cultural legacy of some of Spain’s most famous 20th-century modernist architects, such as Antonio Gaudí, Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. In the words of the designer herself: ‘My approach was to create an atmosphere which speaks of contemporary Spanish design based in the country’s deeply rooted history.’ ‘Thanks to the generous support of Spanish designers and manufacturers,’ Dubbelman explains, ‘we’ve come up with an eclectic mix of furniture, presented in a cohesively decorated space rather like a well-curated exhibition, while also envisioning it is a well-functioning environment in the Tribeca Grand Hotel.’
The total floor area of 1200 square foot of space boasts such irresistible pieces of Spanish design as BD Barcelona’s lip-shaped sofa, which refers to Dalís painting of Mae West, the spectacular rugs of the company Nanimarquina and eye-catching wallpapers of the firm Tres Tintas.
The companies which have taken part in the project include furniture firms BD Barcelona Design, Kendo, Koo International, Sancal and Viccarbe, lighting companies Arturo Álvarez, LZF Lamps, Marset and Santa & Cole, such manufacturers of decorative objects as Délica, Inbani and Lladró such textiles specialists as Nanimarquina and Naturtex, wallpaper company Tres Tintas and ABR a firm which makes room dividers.
