GANCEDO: HIGH QUALITY FABRICS IN MADRID

After months spent on a redesign, Tapicerías Gancedo is reopening its emblematic showroom. Occupying over 800 sq m, it’s based in one of the more prestigious and central areas of Madrid.

Those who head up Tapicerías Gancedo, the high-profile Spanish manufacturer of textiles for the home, have unveiled a new showroom whose style is now both more contemporary and spacious. The space is the headquarters for its office and of its flagship store. The revamp – undertaken by interior designer Nacho James – nevertheless respects the brand identity of this company which, founded in 1945, specialises in textiles and textile decoration.

This showroom, which is designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of people with different tastes, has areas devoted to displaying the latest trends and most up-to-the-minute fabrics as well as areas showcasing more traditional, classical designs.

Before entering the shop, visitors can admire the carefully considered styling of the shop windows which front the street where Jorge Juan Street and Velásquez Street intersect. The interior, which is flooded with daylight, is divided up into several areas in which different fabrics and products – textiles (velvets, damasks, linens, jacquards and printed fabrics), carpets, fitted carpets, blinds, lace curtains, wallpapers (including vinyl wallpapers) – each play a starring role.

You are first greeted by the company’s latest upholstery fabric collections. A bit later you see some of the company’s most classic and successful designs. And there is an area devoted to fabrics destined for use in hotels or public areas, which are fireproof and resistant to wear and tear.

Fifty per cent of Tapicerías Gancedo’s sales are currently made to private clients, and 50 per cent to public projects.

Of special interest is the display area for blinds which boasts a huge range of products (around 110, all fabricated by Tapicerías Gancedo) as well as an area for passementerie (made by the brand Galón).

Tapicerías Gancedo is a family-run, highly reputable business which has earnt itself the prestigious name it has today, thanks to the supremely good quality of its products, the originality of its ideas and its highly sophisticated customer service.

Today, heading up the firm are the third generation of the Gancedo family: siblings Beatriz, José, Manuel, Natividad and Emmeline, who run the company in harmony with each other. The business itself has nine retail outlets in Spain, over 100 employees and, with a presence in 30 countries, is currently putting a huge amount of time and effort into expanding internationally.
