SPANISH OFFICE FURNITURE IN LONDON

On October 1, Actiu opened its new showroom in Clerkenwell, central London, the city’s nerve centre for archiecture and design.

Thanks to this opening, Actiu now boasts a permanent display of its best designs in the British capital – all destined to supply entire offices and communal areas.

Pieces which stand out in the collections displayed in this 145 m sq space include its latest designs, such as the Cool R200 tables which have no frames and legs which are attached directly to the table tops, and its MIT seats designed by Alegre Industrial, a series of chairs and connected seating which incorporate foam and which, thanks to their mimimalist aesthetic, blend easily into all sorts of styles of interior.

Other designs here include the award-winning Plek tables and chairs (also by Alegre Industrial) – pieces which are creative yet timeless and which meet the requirements of an educational environment, catering to the needs of libraries, studies, conference halls and classrooms.

To date, Actiu has been involved in a considerable amount of projects in the UK, proof that there is a market for its furniture in Britain. For example, this Spanish company has furnished the offices of BAA at London’s Heathrow airport, of American Express, Sant Mary University, the National Army Museum and of the British subsidiary companies of car firms Mazda and Ford. More recently, it has kitted out the education areas and offices of the recently refurbished Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, a 100-year-old institution which hosts fairs and displays commissioned artworks and various art collections.

The opening of Actiu’s first UK showroom shows that the company has successfully joined Britain’s already large office furniture sector and has made huge strides in its goal of expanding and consolidating the Actiu brand on an international level.

The business group Actiu, which is over 40 years old, employs over 200 staff and provides work indirectly to another 500 people. It currently exports 28 per cent of its goods, chiefly to Europe and the Middle East. In 2008, it opened its new Technology Park, which measures almost 200,000 sq m. This canny move has boosted its productivity by 30 per cent.
