KETTAL REACHES MANHATTAN

The outdoor furniture group Kettal comes to Manhattan – all thanks to prestigious US company Richard Schultz Design.

On April 22 this year, Richard Schultz Design, which is famous for its classical, timeless outdoor furniture collections, mounted a large display of Kettal collections in its flagship store in the D&D Building in New York. An impressive number of design world professionals, designers and members of the North American press attended the opening of the event, which had a Spanish flavour to it.

The display includes Kettal’s 2010 Hugonet and Triconfort collections, created by such high-profile designers as Patricia Urquiola, Jorge Pensi, Marcel Wanders and Emiliana Design Studio as well as by the company’s in-house design team.

The Kettal group has always been cutting-edge in its design of outdoor furniture in terms both of quality and design. Founded in 1964 by Manuel Alorda as a company which initially distributed aluminium camping and beach furniture, the group later began to manufacture its own designs. Today it is the umbrella group for the company’s four divisions: Kettal, Triconfort, Hugonet and Evolutif.

The Barcelona-based group sells its products in over 60 countries and has showrooms in Shanghai, Guadalajara in Mexico, Cannes and Miami.

The group’s range of products is hugely varied, and Kettal is seen as the group’s most modern brand. But many other qualities have contributed to ensuring that the group is internationally renowned, namely the good quality, good looks, comfort and hardwearing nature of its chairs, sun loungers, tables and stools.

Kettal’s prestigious profile has been reinforced by its canny collaborations with some of the most influential designers on the current design scene. Chief among these are Jorge Pensi, who designed Kettal’s Madison collection in 2004, and, more recently, Patricia Urquiola, who is responsible for the group’s funky Maia line – lightweight, thoroughly contemporary pieces which fuse high-tech fibres with a generously broad aluminium frame.
