The office furniture manufacturer Ofita has opened an impressive new showroom in Madrid. The starting point of this project – a collaboration between Ofita and King & Miranda Design – is that the new look of Ofita’s office and showroom should adapt to its new corporate image and emphasise the company’s passion for design, trends and culture. This message is one that’s just as effectively communicated by its latest ideas for offices and common parts, designed by, among others, Josep Lluscà, Lievore Altherr Molina, Aitor García de Vicuña and King & Miranda. The new building’s two plants have been interlinked as complementary spaces so that they fulfill two functions at the same time: firstly to ensure the company’s products are well-foregrounded so they take centre-stage and secondly to allow visitors to encounter a dynamic workspace where they can observe and experience the interaction between both individuals and larger groups of people as they go about their business in the company. The lighting in both spaces plays a vital role. While indirect lighting designed to avoid harshly reflected light and glare has been deployed in the offices, the designers plumped for sharply focused spotlights in the showroom to give as much prominence as posible to the furniture on display. Both offices and showroom boast a futuristic-looking ceiling incorporating diaphragm-like domes. This subtly and intelligently divides up the spaces into various areas or zones. The project also incorporates two large meeting rooms, a conference hall and two colourful, informal and flexible break-out spaces suitable for working in, having meetings in or simply for discussing ideas in. The Spanish company Ofita, which was founded in 1969, might be one of the world’s leading office companies but its programme of continuous growth has meant that it has successfully expanded into other sectors – such as equipment for co-operatives, domestic properties, hospitals and libraries. The firm has also, over a period of time, seen its products become increasingly innovative and design-led as its range of furniture – which is perfectly in tune with all the latest design trends – amply demonstrates. Through its commitment to innovation, the company has established itself as a major player internationally in its provision of top value services, from its role as a consultancy or project manager to its proven experience in providing built-in equipment as well as in undertaking all projects from conception to completion.
