Jordi Llopis, lighting designer

His most notable products and projects include the following lights for Metalarte – Lens (designed in 2006), Baria (2004), Serena CR (2004), Lifelight (2003), Serena (2003) and Concentra (2003) – and an exhibition stand for the Colegio de Aparejadores y Arquitectos Técnicos de Barcelona (the Association of Architects and Technicians of Barcelona) at the construction fair Construmat (2000). He is currently developing new lamps for Bover and for other lighting design companies as well as pieces of street furniture.

His most recent design for lighting company Bover was launched at this year’s lighting exhibition Euroluce, at the Milan Furniture Fair. The product is the Katsura lamp which comprises three rectangular wall lights in three different sizes and has been conceived as both ambient lighting and a bathroom light. It’s an understated elegant, gloriously luminous and arresting piece, thanks to its unusual latticework design.

In addition, Llopis was shortlisted for the Du Pont Imagineering awards in Barcelona in 2000. He has also worked as a teacher and was invited to be a guest professor at two Barcelona design institutions (among others): the Instituto Europeo Di Design Barcelona and BCD Barcelona Centre de Disseny. He has also coordinated the production of street furniture for an exhibition about eco design called Ecodisseny Urbà held at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona in 2007.

Llopis has taken part in about 15 group exhibitions in prominent international venues linked to design: the Milan Furniture Fair (in 1999 and 2009); Light+Building Messe Frankfurt (2006 to 2004); BCN Fashion Week in Barcelona (2003); Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne (2002); Primavera del Disseny Barcelona (2001), and ICFF in New York (1999).

His creations have also been displayed in art galleries and museums: 300% Spanish Design in Shanghai, China (2007), Aichi, Japan (2005); Conversational Spanish at the Aram Gallery, London (2006); Offjectes, Conceptes i Dissenys at the Museu de les Arts Decoratives (Museum of Decorative Arts), Barcelona (2006); Metalarte 03 at the design shop Vinçon in Madrid (2003); Pasión: Diseño Español (Akademie der Künste in Berlin, Sala de Santo Domingo and Casa de las Conchas in Salamanca) (2002), and ¡Ahora Diseño! at Sala Amadís in Madrid (2002).
