During the last edition of Feria Hábitat de Valencia, Spanish designer Miguel Herranz presented a collection of attractive sinks made of natural stone that he has created for the company Nerinea. Starting with the original block of stone, the three pieces are made with robotic machining. They allow the sink to be customised to the consumers’ liking.

As their creator Miguel Herranz says, ‘In designing these sinks, I avoided flat, conical or spheroid shapes. The robotic machining of these pieces brings out the quality and purity of the original block, with its form revealing the natural essence of the stone’.

The first sink, ‘Essence’, is a design that through basic forms emphasises the power of the stone, its original volume, its strength, and, in short, its essence. The versatility of this piece stands out which can be used to create different types of customised sinks. On the other hand, the ‘Flow’ sink is a sculptural piece with a one-of-kind design that creates a lightweight appearance even though it has a large countertop space. Lastly, the ‘Erosion’ sink is a simple and versatile piece with three basin sizes, which allows larger sinks to be made with the option of placing the basin off centre or including two basins. The company Nerinea’s wide selection of stones allows any of these three sinks to be customised, giving the sink a different personality depending on the stone that is used.

Since 1994, Spanish designer Miguel Herranz has been creating industrial design products for sectors as diverse as the furniture, lighting, ceramics, bathroom and automobile sectors. In addition, he does interior design projects and designs stands. Among the companies with which he has collaborated, well-known Spanish lighting brands such as LZF Lamps and Grupo B-Lux; furniture brands like Viccarbe, Manufacturas Celda and Concepta; and bathroom brands (Novum) stand out. One of his creations, the Mikado lamp designed for LZF Lamps, won the Design Plus award in 2006 awarded by the German Design Council. In 2008, it won the Good Design award awarded by The Chicago Athenaeum.

Nerinea is a Spanish natural stone company with over 40 years of experience in the industry. In Nerinea’s catalogue of stones, you can choose between over 300 stones, among which the Jurassic Brown stands out. It is a natural marble that contains a nice collection of fossilised seashells from the Mediterranean Sea over 150 million years old.
