Spanish design studio Odosdesign has just officially unveiled its own furniture brand “Miter” at the Habitat exhibition in Valencia.
With fifteen years of design projects behind it, Odosdesign studio has put all its know-how into producing this first collection of tables made entirely from porcelain material. The whole series is hand made and each piece has a unique design. Assembling the tables involves a special process of mitre-cutting the porcelain and creating geometric angles which provide the utmost stability to a piece of furniture that comes to life like a sculpture. The porcelain used is highly resistant and these tables, which combine four alternative tops and four legs in different sizes and silhouettes, can occupy any kind of space, either indoor or outdoor, and can even withstand extreme conditions.
As Odosdesign designer Ana Segovia explains, “The brand is the result of the experimentation between designer and producer and its essence is the raw material: porcelain. We have found different uses for this material, which now forms the actual structure of the piece, something unheard of before. We have studied the markings of each vein to achieve continuity in the legs and tops, generating visual continuity and coherence and getting the most from the material”.
The studio designers add, “ As designers, developing a project that we have devised, managed and produced in every one of its stages, has allowed us to take care of each detail of the process, from the search for materials to marketing, product design and the whole retail sales process.”
The “MITER” project feeds on Odosdesign’s experience in materials, products and design projects of all kinds. Behind it are Ana Segovia and Luis Calabuig (who cofounded the studio in 2005). As creative directors, they have brought this challenge to life with the help of the best craftspeople and top experts in the use of this versatile ceramic material.
