Zooco – an architecture, design and interior design studio – has won a 2019 Design Vanguard, a prize awarded by the magazine Architectural Record, which recognised the Spanish studio as one of the 10 best up-and-coming studios in the world in 2019 (studios that were established no more than ten years ago).
Zooco – a multidisciplinary architecture, design and interior design studio – was set up in 2009 by architects Miguel Crespo Picot, Javier Guzmán Benito and Sixto Martín Martínez, who all studied architecture at Madrid’s Polytechnic University.
Today, with offices in Madrid and Santander, they carry out projects in Spain as well as around the world. Over the past ten years, their work has featured over 50 times in local as well as international specialised publications, and some of their projects have been awarded prizes such as: NAN Construcción 2019, EuroShop Retail Design Award ’18 Shanghai, and the International Design Media Award 2018 Shenzhen.
The studio’s philosophy involves taking on all kinds of commissions – no matter how big, and regardless of the budget or programme – with the same creative mindset and zeal, yet bold, solution from an artistic as well as a practical perspective. In a world as changing and fleeting as today’s, they offer architectural and spatial solutions that stand the test of time, that endure the constant ebb and flow of trends and fashions – occurrences that render most creative ideas obsolete almost immediately. One of their main goals is to present design as something of added value, something meaningful that allows businesses to be successful commercially. The studio works alongside their clients throughout the entire creative process and the project’s construction, from the first meeting until the business is up and running; assessing and advising on every aspect that has an impact on the end result.
