The winners of the 2019 Best of Year (BoY) Awards were announced on 6 December at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. These prizes, awarded by the American magazine Interior Design, recognise design work by companies, designers and architects from around the world. Over 900 architects and designers attended the fourteenth Best of Year awards ceremony.
This year there were submissions of more than 2,600 products and projects in 136 different categories. In the product category, a total of 16 pieces 'made in Spain' by 13 Spanish firms were nominated. In the project category, several Spanish design and architecture studios were nominated. Among them, five companies and a Spanish studio won prizes. We would like to congratulate all the Spanish companies and designers that received awards and nominations.
In furniture, the Status table by Andreu World won in the 'Contract Conference Table' category. As for the 'Contract Sofa' category, the winner was the Next Stop sofa designed by Luca Nichetto for Sancal.
In the 'Architectural Products' category, the Gradient collection created by Luis Eslava for Kriskadecor was the winner, and in 'Architectural Lighting' the award went to the Tube hanging lamp by Ichiro Iwasaki for Vibia. In addition, the Ply rug designed by the MUT Design studio for Gan won the prize in the 'Residential Rugs' category.
With respect to projects, the Martín Lejarraga architecture and design studio won in the 'Budget' category thanks to its Loop Inn. Also, in the 'Co-Working Space' category, the German firm Ippolito Freitas was the winner, and the architect responsible was a Spaniard, José Miso Antón.
A Spanish bar—presented by Interiors from Spain and Wines from Spain, sponsored by several Spanish design firms and promoted by Wines from Spain—was recreated at the BoY presentation gala, and wines, including cavas, from five Spanish wineries could be tasted there.
