The architecture and design studio Moneo Brock and the company BD Barcelona Design are presenting a new edition of the REmix project (Vol.5) during this month at the exhibition space “2B Space To Be”. The firm BD Barcelona Design produces this collection of design pieces which aim to REcuperate, REcycle and REuse the scrap materials accumulated by businesses, giving them a second life.

Architect Belén Moneo rose to the challenge of turning old stock of table legs into a series of limited-edition shelves and a colorful collection of book ends which feature in the BD Art Editions catalog. The legs are from the Romana table designed by his father, architect Rafael Moneo, for the Catalan company in 2001.

The pieces will be on display in Madrid starting on March 1st. The exhibit will also feature earlier projects from the REmix series designed by well-known Spanish designers and design studios: Curro Claret (Vol.1), Ramón Úbeda (Vol.2), Jorge Penadés (Vol.3) and Mermelada Estudio (Vol.4).

The REmix project, from producers BD Barcelona Design, was born from the idea that some of the world's most delicious foods are made from leftovers. This is the essence of what is behind the REmix collections, which use recycling, or rather "upcycling", in order to reinterpret components found in storage from previous projects into new functional objects. In our day and age, it is important to consider how to best use our limited resources. REmix manages to create unique pieces which give value to already existing objects, by giving them a second life. This series of limited editions invites other creators from the design sector to consider gathering and reusing old materials from their warehouses. They will reinterpret these to give them a new life.

Belén Moneo studied at Harvard University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Art History and Visual Art in 1988. In 1991 he received his Masters in Architecture at Columbia University in New York, and in 1993 he and Jeff Brock founded the studio Moneo Brock. Their projects encompass architecture, urban planning, interior design, exhibition design, furniture and product design. He has also collaborated as a designer with well-known brands such as Roca and his work has been displayed in galleries, exhibitions and institutions.

Art is part of BD's soul. From their first collaboration with Salvador Dalí, followed by the reproduction and sale of works by Antoni Gaudí, BD has combined the works of the greatest artists with their innate ability to bring visual concepts to life. Their works always combine art, inspiration and craftsmanship. BD Art Editions produce numbered limited-edition runs of pieces created by internationally famous designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Jaime Hayón, Oscar Tusquets and Lluís Clotet.
