Spanish design still harvesting success. The fact is that around twenty-five Spanish companies have won some of the prestigious IF Awards 2020, one of the most important international design prizes organized by the oldest independent professional design association in the world, the iF International Forum Design GmbH. Although companies will need to wait to receive their awards in person - due to the Covid19 - they already enjoy unparalleled international recognition for their outstanding work.

Held for 67 years, the IF Awards reward good design in numerous categories. And moving into the awards, five Spanish luminaries were awarded in the product section. The firm Simón won three awards for DROP, MOOD and POINT. The configurable DROP projector system forms light drops that fall on different surfaces to draw custom compositions to define spaces. The MOOD wall lights, designed by the Ricard Vila studio, create the magical effect of light coming out of the wall, and the POINT projector stands out for its minimalist design. For its part, the firm Faro Barcelona was awarded for the LOTUS outdoor lamp, created by Estudi Ribaudi and for its RHINO floor light, Arkoslight designed by Rubén Saldaña.

In turn, five bathroom firms and one stone firm also won prizes in the product category; one of them is Ramon Soler for its tourbillon technology single-lever basin URBAN CHIC, Noken for its sculptural OXO basin mixer, Fiora Bath, and Construplas-Acquabella for their LIMITE and SMART QUIZ shower trays, Profiltek for its KEISY shower cubicle created by Innova Industrial Design, and Miapetra for its ecological natural stone wash KIWA.

In the "Talents" section, the ETNISK collection of food storage solutions designed by the "Universitat Politecnica Catalunya", combines different traditional techniques to extend the fruit and vegetables shelf life without any type of energy consumption. And in the product category: the innovative design creations of Nacar studio such as the new EX3 coffee machine concept for the company Crem, the LAB cutlery collection for Comas & Partners, the UAD milling head or the FOX drilling and milling machine for the Nicolás Correa Group, or the DAVINCI anodized aluminum and titanium pen designed by Ànima Barcelona for Artika which is handmade with computer numeric control (CNC) technology. Likewise, the Spanish studio Lievore Altherr Molina was awarded for its PARAVAN MOOD dividing panel, created for the Italian firm Arper, and in the "Interior Architecture" category, the award was granted to the Málaga Club “Pastrami," designed by Paco Lago Interiorismo.

Also, we highlight other awards obtained by Spanish companies such as the firm Gama-decor in the “Professional Concept” category for its “Smart Kitchen,” an intelligent surface powered by a hidden electronic mesh device which is invisibly installed on kitchen shelves. An associated mobile application indicates functions such as reducing waste, issuing alerts when products expire, menu suggestions, and creating automatic shopping lists.

Finally, the company Roca, a world reference in bathroom products, was awarded in the "Communication" section for its "Roca One Day Design Challenge." A design contest that challenges students and professionals under the age of 30 from around the world to create original products related to bathroom spaces in just one day.
