If you were to dream of a heavenly place in which to relax, surrounded by a turquoise sea, it would probably look like the Maldives. The design studio Autoban created the interior design and some of the architectural elements of the exclusive Joali resort, located on the island of Muravandhoo, which is part of the Raa Atoll. To furnish the hotel’s lounge and the terraces of the villas, the studio chose various collections by the Spanish outdoor furniture brand Kettal.
The studio designed this 5-star resort with the idea of fusing the indoor and outdoor spaces of this complex with the exotic and idyllic landscape that surrounds it. In line with the aesthetics of the islands – and using local materials, such as bamboo and coconut fibre – the design team created architectural elements based on traditional and artisanal techniques used by the craftsmen of the Maldives.
The resort has 73 luxury villas, some on land while others are over the water. Each one has been beautifully decorated and carefully fitted out down to the very last detail to ensure that guests enjoy a unique experience. The design team were particularly discriminating when choosing the designer furniture, because it had to be both functional and movable. Kettal was the perfect choice as their pieces blend naturally with the Maldivian soul of this hotel complex. Basket armchairs, designed by Nanna & Jorgen Ditzel, can be found in the hotel’s lounge and outdoor areas, as well as on the terraces of the villas. Other Kettal furniture at the hotel includes Club armchairs and Cala dining chairs designed by Doshi Levien, sofas and tables from the Riva collection and Park Life dining tables by Jasper Morrison, and Mesh and Vieques tables designed by Patricia Urquiola. Once again, Kettal has been chosen to furnish a luxury hotel.
