The choice of Valencia as World Design Capital 2022 means that his year Spain occupies a prominent place in world of design. We tell you all about the key events and activities that you’ll find in the city crossed by the river Turia in the coming months.

During the month of September, the celebration moves out onto the street. The XVII International DoCoMoMo Congress is being organized from September 6 to 9, themed "Modern design: social commitment and quality of life", and a few days later, from September 19 to 25, the “World Design Street Festival” will be held on the city streets, with the aim of making design more accessible to the public. An activity that aims to celebrate the designation of Valencia as World Design Capital, showing visitors in an instructive way the importance of design in people's lives through installations and workshops for all. This festival includes major design events such as "Feria Hábitat" "Valencia Disseny Week" from September 19 to 23, and the "International Interior Design Forum" (FIDI). Also noteworthy is the "Jaime Hayon: InfinitaMente". Exhibition, which will open its doors on September 22 at the "Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània", the first large-scale retrospective on the Jaime Hayón’s to be held in Spain. A selection of the most emblematic works of the multifaceted Spanish designer will be on display, including works that not previously been presented in Spain, as well as large-format paintings and sculptures. And on September 23, the "Bombas Gens Centre d'Art" will be hosting the "World Design Exchange", a meeting between the leaders and organizers of World Design Weeks and other design events.

In October VCMD will be looking to the future: fashion, health, circular economy and resilient cities. Among other activities, the "Future of Fashion” congress on sustainable fashion will take place on October 5 and 6 in "Las Naves". During the presentations, workshops and activities there will be a platform for creation, experimentation and knowledge sharing, geared towards six pillars of sustainability: raw materials; design; the supply chain; production; consumption and waste; emissions and biodiversity. From October 6, Las Naves will also be hosting "Beyond the Plastic Wave". An immersive installation, curated by Carmen Baselga and Héctor Serrano and conceived to raise awareness of the problem of plastic waste pollution in our oceans, and in particular in the Mediterranean. The exhibition will feature works and objects made using plastic waste collected from the seas and oceans recycled and re-purposed. Also, an exhibition on "Design and Health", the result of research carried out by architect, designer and disseminator Ramón Úbeda, will be held on October 20. That same month will also see the premiere of a documentary by Mariscal, and the opening of several exhibitions such as "Play with Design" and "Nude. 20 years, 20 designers".

Three signature events will be held in November. On November 3 and 4, the “World Design Policy Conference” will be launched. The conference will provide a global platform for the exchange of ideas, and a think tank where best practices from different countries, regions and cities working on the inclusion of effective design policies will be presented. On November 3, it will also be the turn of the grand gala "World Design Convocation Ceremony”, a symbolic event to mark the successes of the year as World Design Capital, and to showcase the highlights of the year.  And on November 4 the "World Design Cities Meeting” will be held, a forum for political decision-makers with the power to decide on design policies. Those attending will include the mayors of the cities that have been designated World Design Capital. Organized by the World Design Organization.
