The BEND shelf, the PUMP table lamp, and the SP!N spinning top. These are the latest creations from the Kutarq design studio, which were recently presented at Maison Objet and Ambiente 2019, major international furniture and decoration fairs.
Doubling as a wall mirror, the “Bend” shelf is a set of shelves on which a variety of objects can be placed. This design, inspired by simple geometry and origami, was created for the Canadian firm Umbra Shift. The piece can be hung in four different ways thanks to its anchoring system, allowing different configurations to be created. Its mirrors create an optical illusion of depth, and its bent steel shelves form small cutouts which reveal the mirror.
The PUMP table lamp was designed by Kutarq for the Danish company Woud. It is inspired by hot-air balloons and by the idea of a luminaire lifting off the ground and floating in mid-air. The light tubular steel structure represents a rocket’s trail and accentuates the luminaire’s levitation effect. With its smooth shape made out of matt opal glass and its small size, this lamp is ideal for environments which call for warm lighting, such as a windowsill or a shelf.
Lastly, the SP!N spinning top was devised by Kutarq for the Japanese firm H Concept (+d) and comes in five colours. The piece creates an optical illusion of levitation. When you spin the upper part, an exclamation mark appears. This spinning top is not merely a toy. It can be used to alleviate stress and reduce anxiety.
