In late 2012, the prestigious, Spanish outdoor furniture company Gandía Blasco opened its first showroom in Asia – in Hong Kong, where the world’s leading luxury brands and companies are based, thanks to its population’s large incomes per capita and high concentration of millionaires in a very restricted area. What’s more, Hong Kong’s proximity to mainland China makes it a great entry point into China’s huge market, while many consumers from this part of the country come to the island to shop.
It’s thanks to Gandía Blasco’s enthusiasm for this market – and to its distributor ZZue Creation – that the firm has opened its first shop in Asia. This showcases the modular Flat furniture collection designed by Mario Ruiz, which won a Red Dot Design Award in 2010, Bali parasol by Odosdesign, Big armchair by Stefan Díez, and brilliant Ensombra parasols, which, also designed by Odosdesign, scooped The Association of Industrial Design (ADI-FAD) Delta award in 2007. Elsewhere there’s the Tropez collection. Also designed by Díez, this is inspired by sports of the 30s and 40s and won a Wallpaper* Design Award this year. Overall, the shop has various collections, including some of its latest products, from sofas, pouffes, chairs and armchairs to tables and parasols in elegant colours, such as sand, bronze and white. In short, the shop reflects Gandía Blasco’s determination to break into the Asian market.
The company has an established distribution network in 74 countries all over the world and over 15 stores in cities such as New York, Milan, Los Angeles, Istanbul and Barcelona, among others. In the coming year, the firm plans to open a monobrand store in Miami Design District.
