In April 2005, Jaume Tresserra opened its first exclusive store in Paris, the boutique TRESSERRA COLLECTION, which is at number 168 of one of the most popular streets in the French capital, on Rivoli street, where a large number of international brands are present, and opposite to Louvre Museum.
The firm TRESSERRA Collection was created in 1987 by the Catalonian designer, after he had worked as interior designer for several years and had designed furniture exclusively for his costumers, in response to the demands of a particular consumer whose wants and needs reflect an entire life style. Since then he designs splendid furniture collections and decorating accessories, based on his philosophy of the rejection of excessive industrial constraints in which beauty is often lost as a trade-off in the pursuit of financial gain.
The boutique Tresserra Collection in Paris occupies an exceptional space of 160 square metres with four shop windows totally open to the street and another five facing the square yard of “Louvre des Antiquaires”. Both entrances lead to a luminous, neutral and open environment, where a large part of the furniture and accessories collection is displayed as an art gallery. The white walls and the ivory floor allow the pieces of Tresserra to express them without impediment.
A tour around the store makes it possible to enjoy the great “classics” of Tresserra like the “Samuro Cabinet”, the “Carpett Secreter” or the “Chiffonier Storage”. One space recreates an office with the Novel desk, the Casablanca armchair and the five metres long Prólogo bookcase, while in another space there are products for the home. Another space is devoted to new designs or performance according to the designer’s original ideas. Since December 2007 Tresserra boutique in Paris exhibits the latest creation of the collection: the Bolero, a pool table that was designed only a year before and that can already be found in the most elegant lounges of all over the world.
Tresserra Collection consists of several designs, from trunks reminiscent of the glamorous time of transoceanic journeys to elegant armchairs, chests of drawers with secret drawers, refined chairs and tables, as well as bar furniture, desks that spread out, screens and lamps. In 2004, Jaume Tresserra incorporated into his range of pieces a collection of accessories with the name “Variations”. This collection includes candelabra, vases, candle holders, letter-openers, desk clocks, desk blotters and games like chess and backgammon. It consists of a large range of very sophisticated furniture and accessories with a style that is classical and innovator at the same time.
Faithful to Jaume Tresserra’s aesthetic commitment, shape has been given to the designs through the employment of the revered arts of hand craftsmanship and artistry, and through the utilization of only the highest quality materials, being wood the favourite one. For the furniture in this collection Spanish white walnut was mainly used, treated with natural varnishes and always applied by hand to pay homage to its nobility and natural qualities. The metallic pieces are of brass dipped in an electrolytic bath that allows various high qualities finishes to be obtained: gunmetal chromed or silver-plated. Armchair and seating upholstery is made from un-dyed cotton cloth or calf leather. For other accessories in the collection, timbers like iroco, sycamore, cedar and other natural materials are employed, handcrafted with skill and experience.
One of the peculiarities that defines Treserra’s designs is that they are “completely finished” on all sides. Some of the models look like sculptures. According to Jaume Tresserra, “everything comes from a personal dislike of that furniture that has the hidden part finished with an ordinary wood. A piece of furniture should be able to stand alone in the middle of the room or in a separate space”.
Speaking of Jaume Tresserra in the world of international interior design is linked to a Mediterranean of an atmosphere that is refined, rationalist, warm, contemporary and full of beauty, passion, perfectionism and innovation. This requires a subtle balancing of characteristics that exploits this century’s best design, especially Art Deco and Rationalism, close to Eastern traditions and finishes, sifted through an essentially Latin designer’s intuition, capable of infusing life into all these traditions to recreate a piece of furniture that looks towards the future.
