Bover was founded in late 1996. Ever since, it has manufactured its contemporary lighting entirely in its factory in Cardedeu, in the province of Barcelona. The company makes all its products on its own premises, exerting total control over every stage of their manufacture. Because of this, it’s fully in charge of the quality control of its lighting’s components as well as the delivery times of its business orders. As well as making indoor and outdoor lighting, it has also manufactured some occasional furniture.
For Joana Bover, who founded the firm and is its main designer and driving force, the company embodies her enthusiasm, efforts and taste for beautiful, timeless things that give its users a strong sense of wellbeing. The firm’s philosophy springs, on a daily basis, from its way of thinking and being and results from the professionalism and dedication of its staff who are alive to the cultural life around them. The firm’s culture and its products respond to its ability to innovate and to its commitment as a business to offering its clients high quality, well-designed, contemporary pieces.
Good design – which Bover sees as a way of expressing itself and as an essential way for it to reflect on and analyse its products’ qualities – is a key element of its creations. Helping to achieve this is the company’s in-house technical design team, headed up by Bover, and its collaborations with freelance designers – such as Lluís Porqueras, Christophe Mathieu, Jordi Llopis, Alex Fernández Camps, Carles Riart, Miquel Llach, Gonzalo Milà and Luis Viñas – whose ideas and creations inevitably enrich the company’s output.
Bover’s lighting aims to strike a balance between good quality and good design, resulting in a timeless aesthetic. Its creations strive to achieve a harmony between good looks, comfort, state-of-the-art technology and quality, without losing sight of such things as economic factors, products with value and functionality.
The company’s lighting is intended as much for indoor and outdoor spaces, while its pieces grace restaurants, shops, offices and hotels, for example in hotel chains such as Vincci, the Hotel Hesperia Tower, the Casa Danone – all in Barcelona – and the restaurant Port Nàutic in L’Escala, Gerona, among other public spaces.
Bover has a highly selective business network in over 80 countries, mainly based in Europe, but also across the world. In late 2012, it opened a subsidiary in New York called Bover USA.
