Set up in 2007 by Jose Aranda y Paula Aloy, Enblanc is a studio combining design, graphic design and branding. Carlos Velasco is also part of the team. Since 2007, it has undertaken industrial design, branding and interior design projects on an international scale. Its ideas are always practical, simple and cohesive.
Its projects have been displayed in many exhibitions and galleries in Finland, Tokyo, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. It has received prizes for its Zas lights for Ona and for its graphic design for youth fashion label Pull & Bear.
Among its most recent products, mention must be made of its storage unit-cum-side table Beside, manufactured by Systemtronic, designed to be used in different spaces and for different uses, and of its Jan armchair, made by Jacinto Usán – a timeless design which captures all the warmth of wood and marries this with the contrasting effect of a taut fabric stretched across its seat and backrest.
Other recent projects include the design of the exhibition, Todo Empieza Aquí (everything begins here) and of the design workshop called El Amigo Invisible (invisible friend) for the MA students on the Engineering and Design design course at the University, CEU
Cardenal Herrera in Valencia, where the students were asked to write what their tastes were on cards, then passed these around to others at random. In this unusual project, these cards gave each person a brief to design a special present.
Enblanc created the graphic identity of the Valencia Design Week event last year, and designed an exhibition space which promoted the department called Crear Hogar (Create a Home) at the El Corte Inglés emporium.
To get to know them better, Interiors from Spain approached them to find out more about their work:
Interiors From Spain: Which designers inspire you? Which ones do you particularly admire?
Enblanc: We admire many designers. But their names aren’t necessarily relevant as what we admire ultimately are good projects and good design.
IFS: Enblanc works in the world of product design, graphics and interior design. Which of these disciplines do you feel most comfortable working in?
Enblanc: All of them. We three members of Enblanc each specialise in one of these areas. Our combined talents mean that we are able to carry out product design, graphics and interior design projects, making sure our different disciplines interrelate, which enriches each project.
IFS: Of all the projects you’ve done to date, which are you most proud of, and why?
Enblanc: We can’t single one out. We like all of them a lot and we’ve derived good and bad experiences from each one. With each project, we start from scratch and when a project is finished and when clients are satisfied because you’ve found a successful solution to fit their brief, that’s when we feel most proud.
IFS: Tell us about your next projects? Can you give us any hints as to any future collaborations?
Enblanc: We’re really excited about the workshop we’ll be holding at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Valencia (Valencia’s art and design college) as part of the project ‘El futbol (también) es así’ (Football is also like this), an exhibition about football and design, overseen by the communication agency Contexto Comunicación.
We’ve also started a graphic design project for a German jewellery company which we hope to tell you more about soon.
IFS: Enblanc was very prolific in 2011. What do you hope to achieve professionally in 2012?
Enblanc: To continue to grow in our working life – and to land more international projects would make 2012 a perfect year for us.
