The Chandlo dressing table was originally created by London-based design duo Doshi Levien as a prototype. This was made by Spanish company BD Barcelona and shown this year at an installation called Das Haus – Interiors on Stage (which explored the theme of the ideal house) at furniture trade fair IMM Cologne in Germany. Now this subtle piece is part of BD Barcelona’s portfolio of designs.
Chandlo means a moon shape and a bindi – the small decoration women in India and other parts of Asia wear on their foreheads – which the framed mirror at the centre of the piece alludes to.
This dressing table very simply incorporates the elements we need to help us dress and groom ourselves. It comes with a rotating stool upholstered in leather adorned with fine lines embroidered in silver. Chandlo’s geometric forms and colours are inspired by the Bauhaus, the German modernist design school, and by the early 20th-century De Stijl art movement, famous for its highly pared-down aesthetic.
