A marble washbasin inspired by the interaction between water and stones in riverbeds.
The design studio Dsignio has created a new marble washbasin called River Stone for the washbasin company Goah, which is part of the firm Peronda Ceramicas.
River Stone is a natural, round-contoured stone washbasin which recalls the smoothly eroded stones found on riverbeds and the ancient tradition of piling one stone on another as a form of signal. As part of its brief, Dsignio had to bear in mind that the sink had to have the potential to be sold in 60 or so countries, so it wanted the piece to find a common link between many cultures. So Dsignio took inspiration from nature and the interaction between water and stones lying on riverbeds since these are found over most of the planet. The smooth curves on eroded stones sparked the idea for a washbasin resembling a stone worn down by a fast current of water – a form as organic and pleasing to the eye as stones on a riverbed. The tradition of piling stones on top of each other to create a sign for others inspired Dsignio to create a similarly round-contoured marble shelf under the basin as well as an asymmetric, curvilinear mirror which forms a third ‘stone’ and emphasises and completes this composition of rounded forms. When looking at – and touching – the washbasin’s soft contours and listening to the sound of water falling on them, we’re transported to a natural, romantic setting and feel as though we’re in a river that gives stones their rounded forms.
Dsignio is a design studio offering a comprehensive industrial and interior design service. Since it was founded in 2002, it has created pieces for a variety of homeware companies such as Beltá, for which it designed several collections of sofas, armchairs and tables, including the Rund range of tables, Vibia, for which it produced the Inside lamp, and Now Carpets, for which it created the Cities line of rugs.
The Goah brand of washbasins belongs to the group Peronda Ceramicas which makes flooring and ceramic surfaces and exports around 80 per cent of its goods to over 100 countries all over the world.
