A simple, durable wastepaper bin, designed by Alex Fernández Camps and Gonzalo Milà.
Durbanis, a company which designs, makes and markets street furniture, has just unveiled its Paperhouse wastepaper bin, designed by Alex Fernández Camps and Gonzalo Milà.
Paperhouse is conceived to be as practical as possible: it meets all the crucial requirements such a product demands, from durability to hygiene. The bin’s design guarantees that rainwater cannot enter the rubbish bag inside it, while its arched top stops people dumping rubbish on top of it. And the rubbish bag is hidden from view, giving the streets and squares the bin stands in a nicer, tidier look. All these considerations were key to the development of the piece, whose design itself stands out for being of very high quality.
Durbanis was founded in 2008 in the Catalan city, Banyoles. Since then, it has specialised in producing innovative street furniture with a simple, geometric aesthetic. In its view, innovation involves a total reconsideration of all aspects of a design and experimentation with new materials, while often returning to the basics of a design and to the harmonious balancing of form and function. The company is committed to innovative use of materials as a means of differentiating its products from those of other brands. It offers new materials such as glass-reinforced concrete (GRC), cements with decontaminating properties and reconstituted rubber, all of which open fresh avenues for development and design in order to create improved, more varied products. The company’s desire to create new, added values and new designs and ideas has seen it collaborate with several designers, such as Yonoh and Alex Fernández Camps, among others.
