Figueras takes Spain's prestigious National Design Award

The company scooped the prize for its global expansion, which has helped spread the word about Spanish design in over 160 countries.

The Spanish government has honoured Figueras, the country's leading public seating manufacturer, awarding it Spain's National Design Award.

It's the highest accolade awarded by the government to recognise the importance of design to the Spanish economy, and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness praised Figueras for its consistent use of design and technology to create innovative products 2013.

Figueras is one of Spain's most successful international brands, designing technologically-advanced seating for auditoriums, theatres, conference centres and parliament buildings all over the world.

Recent projects include the seating for the refurbished UN General Assembly in New York and for four adjacent conference halls. It's also in Vietnam, equipping the Hanoi Parliament with 1,000 seats, and in Nigeria where it's fitting out the 40,000-capacity Nigeria National Stadium in Abuja. In addition Figueras is supplying seating to the Salomón Temple in Sao Paulo which has a 10,000-seat church in the city centre.
