The Valencia-base studio Enblanc has been commissioned to design company Jacinto Usán’s latest design ¬¬– the Jan armchair – a timeless piece that captures all the warmth of wood and marries this with the contrasting effect of a taut fabric called Batyline, stretched across its seat and backrest.
Batylin is a totally eco, 100 per cent recyclable material suitable for indoors and out. It’s been treated with a fungicidal substance and comes in a wide spectrum of colours. The chair’s frame is made of mongoy wood and beech, which can be lacquered or stained any colour.
This is the first collaboration between Jacinto Usán, a company based in Zaragoza, in Aragon, in northern Spain, and Enblanc, a young design outfit from Valencia, set up in 2007 by Carlos Velasco, José Aranda and Paula Aloy.
Founded in 1945, Jacinto Usán manufactures chairs, armchairs and sofas. It combines the hand-crafted with innovation, tradition with the latest technology. Designed by, among others, Diego Fortunato, Miguel Ángel Ciganda and Enblanc itself, its pieces can be found in public spaces all over the world: Caesar Park Penha Longa Hotel Spa and Golf & Resort (in Sintra, Portugal), Excelsior Hotel at Heathrow Airport in London and Grand Hôtel in Stockholm in Sweden, among others.
We integrate architecture, branding, and product design into one coherent, cross-cutting vision
