Handcrafted, sustainable furniture company Woodendot launches first collection.

Woodendot, a new company specialising in producing wooden furniture and homeware, has just launched its first collection of lights – the Ka range, designed by Daniel García and María José Vargas.

The inspiration for it was the idea of making a lamp with the minimum of materials, no ornamentation and using traditional construction methods without involving glue or screws. The collection takes into account the aesthetic and functionality normally expected of a lamp. When developing the design, various models were tried out and all kinds of joint techniques experimented with – initially traditional knots using cord, then fabric and, finally, leather, until a slender yet stable structure was achieved. The resulting design is a family of poetic lamps with simple, sleek lines which form a stylised collection of pieces of wood tied tightly together with leather cord.

The collection comes in three models called XL, M and S, and three types of lighting: ambient light, reading light and table lamp. XL and M come in two versions: the minimalist Essential model and Functional, which features a natural leather shelf near its base and a flash of colour on its feet. The lamps are made of natural materials, and every detail has been given the utmost consideration.

Woodendot is a recently founded, Madrid-based wooden furniture and homeware company, whose philosophy is sustainability, handcrafted manufacture and product development. It’s headed up by Daniel García who is its creative director and product designer in conjunction with María José Vargas, who’s responsible for design and press relations. In conjunction with specialist craftspeople, both design and make products that have a strong identity, are accessible, timeless and durable, and that try to avoid unnecessary waste. The firm has a workshop in Íscar, a small town in Valladolid in northwestern Spain that has a long history of hand-crafting wood.
