They adorn this Swedish hotel’s lobby and reception area.
Spanish company KriskaDECOR’s curtains shine like multicoloured chains in the lobby and reception of new hotel Stora Hotellet in Umea, Sweden, the latest project of Swedish design agency Stylt Trampoli, which looked to KriskaDECOR to embellish these areas.
In order to decorate this hotel in Umea — a European Capital of Culture in 2014 — KriskaDECOR has made around 95 curved curtains that fill the entire ceiling of the lobby. These are suspended from the ceiling and so make it lower. The curtains incorporate a total of five colours, their green, gold and blue tones — which evoke the sea — standing out the most. Of particular note in this project is the gorgeous interaction between the light projected here and the curtains, which results in a play of light and colours similar to the reflections of sunlight and moonlight in the sea.
KriskaDECOR has been manufacturing metal curtains made of a fine mesh, which can be custom-made in different sizes and shapes, since 1926. In 1957, the company devised a special technique for anodising aluminium, making its curtains more weather-resistant and durable. Their fine-mesh material allows for the curtains to be curved or undulate and convey a sense of movement. They’re mainly used to as room dividers, separating parts of rooms without the need for solid walls. They’re also used to decorate all types of commercial spaces, such as shop windows, conference halls, theatre and TV sets, rooms used for events, halls, lobbies, hotels restaurants and exhibition stands. KriskaDECOR is internationally renowned as a leading company of metal curtains, and these decorate a multitude of international projects and events. The most recent of these include Abba The Museum in Stockholm, the lobby of Tel Aviv’s Royal Beach hotel, the new Vincci Gala hotel in Barcelona and the hospitality area of Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad Stadium.
