During this year’s Milan Furniture Fair, world-famous Danish home fabrics company Kvadrat mounted an exhibition as part of the Fuorisalone events (those held all over the city, outside the Rho Phero fairground). It took place at Jil Sander’s showroom and its most iconic fabric, Hallingdal 65, took centre-stage.
The exhibition’s aim was to pay tribute to Hallingdal 65, which was created by legendary designer Nanna Ditzel in 1965. To this end, Kvadrat invited seven curators to select designers from all over the world to reinterpret the classic fabric.
Three Spanish studios were asked to take part, including Barcelona-based outfit Mermelada Estudio, which, inspired by childhood, created a very original kids’ playroom. This was also used as the main image to publicise the event. It’s a very original product which we hope will prove highly successful.
Martí Guixé and Martín Azúa also participated in the show, exhibiting their own products. In Kvadrat’s words, ‘The project’s aim is to present new ways to display the product and encourage the use of the fabrics, as well as to give designers from all over the world the opportunity to exhibit their work during the industry’s most prestigious fair.’
