L Shelving, an organic shelving unit by Mediodesign

Designed by Juan Pablo Quintero, director of Mediodesign, L Shelving is a modular shelving system based on multiplying a single component. Recalling the scales on a fish, its L-shaped modular components can be linked without any need for screws or fastenings. The piece gently slopes, allowing the books on it to lean in a natural, casual way.

The shelving unit was presented for competition by Arré Design, from the Netherlands and was received the Interior Innovation Award, originally launched by the IMM Cologne international furniture trade fair and organised by the German Design Council. Made of birch ply covered in laminates in a greeny blue shade, white or chocolate brown, the shelving system stands out for its ingenuity, originality and good looks.

The prize will be given on January 16 at the Alter Wartesaal, an event centre and restaurant in central Cologne, Germany.
