A lighting collection created by Christophe Mathieu.
Spanish lighting company Marset recently unveiled its Maranga lighting collection, dreamt up by German designer Christophe Mathieu.
Maranga is based on the name of a fruit, albeit an imaginary one: it looks exquisite, exciting, succulent, and reinterprets Scandinavian style via its pared-down form and rational lighting design that creates a warm, cosy atmosphere. Its special shade is made of 32 tangerine-like segments that fit together, leaving chinks through which light seeps. This interplay of light and shadow creates rich nuances of light and cuts out glare, while an opening at the bottom of the shade, fitted with a diffusor, casts light directly downwards.
The Maranga collection comes in two sizes, 32cm or 50cm, and three colours – white, sandy beige and dark grey. These can be combined in different ways to create various models: two versions of a standard light, two table lamps, two pendant lights and a ceiling light.
Catalan company Marset was founded in the 1940s. By reinventing itself over the years – thanks to a commitment to good design, and to creating pieces that unfailingly innovate, surprise and thrill – the company’s appeal has endured. Two key ingredients behind its success are its in-house design team, led by artistic director Joan Gaspar, and its collaboration with such well-known designers as Mathias Hahn, Lagranja, Francesc Rifé, Fabien Dumas, Antonio Miró and Jakob Timpe.
