Midi Colors by Lagranja Design

A colourful furniture collection for the company Sistema Midi.

Barcelona-based studio Lagranja Design has created a new collection that furniture manufacturer Sistema Midi recently unveiled at the German trade fair Orgatec.

The collection comprises five tables in different sizes, four cabinets, two shelving units, a bench and a mirror. The furniture is made of veneered wood, its supporting structure of lacquered, extruded aluminium. The cabinets’ doors and drawers are lacquered on the outside; inside, they’re lined with melamine. The most notable aspect of the collection is its lively, colourful look. What’s more, a warmth in terms of its textures and use of new materials can be observed in its smallest details. From a technical point of view, what makes it stand out is its unusual use of extruded aluminium.

Sistema Midi, a family-run, Catalan business, makes furniture for both the domestic and contract markets, and the aim of its collaboration with Lagranja is to bring the design of its products to the fore.

Founded in 2002, Lagranja Design is a multidisciplinary studio whose many projects encompass industrial and interior design. It describes its pieces as ‘Fantasia logica’, meaning logical fantasy, which implies that its projects combine good looks and funtionality. One of its latest is its Maui lamps created for the Spanish company, Lamp. Last October, it also took part as a speaker in some Spanish Design Techniques conferences held in Beijing and Guangzhou, which focused on interior design and homeware.
