Spanish craftsmanship and high-end furniture seek out new business opportunities in highly prestigious markets.

Valencian company Muebles Canella and Madrid-based Real Fábrica de Tapices (Royal Tapestry Factory) have signed an agreement to collaborate on the international promotion and marketing of their businesses. Their aim is reap the benefits of the synergies of both companies and thus take advantage of new business opportunities in future.

The positioning of the two companies is in the luxury goods market since they offer exclusive products to clients with high purchasing power. What’s more, they make hand-crafted products to the highest standards.

Techniques carefully deployed by Muebles Canella include marquetry, cabinet-making using high quality wood and engraving on to gold or silver sheets. In the workshops of Real Fábrica de Tapices, experienced weavers preserve the ancient craft of making silk tapestries or rugs with hand-knotted rugs using Spanish or Turkish knots, while embroiderers practise the labour-intensive art of creating tapestry with appliqués. Meanwhile, its expert dyers produce infinitely subtle shades of colours on wools and silks.

In addition to promoting both brands, this collaboration aims to strengthen both the value of ‘Made in Spain’ and all things hand-crafted. As Salvador Jiménez, director of Muebles Canella, puts it, ‘Our alliance with Real Fábrica involves working with a brand that fulfills two criteria which we share: its goods are produced exclusively in Spain using hand-crafted techniques which, in its case, have remained the same since the 18th century’.
