The Spainalight exhibition scoops prizes in Japan and Spain.
The Spainalight exhibition created for ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade) by the Madrid-based studio Stone Designs on the occasion of Tokyo Designers Week 2011 – and held at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo to showcase the best of Spanish design – has been picked, out of over 400 submitted entries, as the winner of the Grand Prix award. This is the first prize of the CS Awards (www.cs-designaward.jp). These have been given by the CS Design Center of Nakagawa Chemical Inc in Japan for the past 30 years.
What’s more, Stone Designs has also received the silver Laus 2012 prize for Spain Alight, a documentary about the use of light in the creative process (http://vimeo.com/40374545). This was made in collaboration with Narita Estudio, based in Málaga, southern Spain, and directed by Jorge Cosmen. Introduced in 1964 by Spain’s ADG-FAD (Asociación de Directores de Artes y Diseñadores Gráficos, meaning Association of Art Directors and Graphic Designers), the Laus prizes are given to the best projects in audiovisual communication, graphic design and advertising in Spain, and Spain Alight has been chosen out of hundreds of submitted works.
Stone Designs was founded in 1995 by Eva Prego and Cutu Mazuelos, and since then has created many projects and designs all of which have a personal, surprising character that’s also thoroughly natural and full of energy. These qualities have led the company to create designs for such companies as Toyota, Telepizza and Women’s Secret as well as furniture for Japanese brand Muji, Swedish firm Offecct and Spanish company RS Barcelona.
