A table designed by Ramón Úbeda and Otto Canalda with fish motifs floating in it.
Cutting-edge furniture company Viccarbe has wowed us once again with its latest, highly original design created by Ramón Úbeda and Otto Canalda — Up in the Air, a cylindrical, white table containing clear resin in which hand-made, naturalistic models of fishes are suspended. This subtle, minimalist design, incorporating environmentally friendly resin, is ideal for all types of waiting rooms — and very attention-grabbing.
As its creators say, the table captures the memory of a dream. The project’s challenge wasn’t simply to design a lacquered, cylindrical table the size of a side table but one which freezes a moment in time. To achieve this, the designers collaborated with a professional fisherman and a sculptor who hand-made the ultra-naturalistic fishes, which, encased in resin, appear to swim like real fishes.
A trained architect, Úbeda is also an industrial and graphic designer who has created products for firms such as Rapsel and Camper. He has collaborated on various publications and had several books published. He has also collaborated with Canalda in BD Barcelona Design’s design development department. Together, they have also co-designed Metalarte’s Inout, Nanit and Triana lights.
