Marset for its Ginger pendant light and Parachilna for best new brand of 2014.
Spanish lighting companies continue to win international prizes for their confections. The latest to do so are Marset and Parachilna, which have been awarded prestigious prizes by the highly regarded British magazine Wallpaper*. These annual prizes go to the main players in the design world in various categories and sectors, including domestic design, fashion, hotels, new public buildings and private houses.
The Ginger pendant light, designed by Joan Gaspar for Marset, has received a Wallpaper* Design Award 2015 in the Best Executive Office category. Ginger explores a new material and technology applied to the lighting sector: layers of wood and paper shaped under high pressure. The result is an overhead shade that’s only 4mm thick, with a white interior that helps reflect light and a high quality wood on the outside. This extremely lightweight lamp with a disc-shaped shade pays homage to 1960s rock group Cream’s drummer, Ginger Baker.
As for Parachilna, as part of the same Wallpaper* Design Awards 2015, it has received the Best New Brand Award 2015 (for a brand launched in 2014). The prize recognises the success of the company’s first collections, Anwar, Aballs and Alistair, and its commitment to collaborate with high-profile designers of the stature of Stephen Burks, Jaime Hayón and Jordi Veciana, ever since the firm was founded.
To this clutch of awards given to Spanish companies can be added those won by LZF Lamps, which received a Special Mention in the German Design Awards of 2015 and in the North American Best of Year 2014 Award for its Asterisco light, designed by Cuatro Cuatros, and the prestigious German iF Design Award 2015 for Asterisco and its Chou lights, designed by Yonoh.
