Milan Furniture Fair
If you made it over to Milan, you'll no doubt agree that you need a good few days to recover from this fair because it's a huge city-wide, dawn-til-dusk extravaganza.
For anyone who works in design or who's interested in design, Milan is what April is all about. And this year's fair – the 64th – didn't disappoint, particularly as it was bi-annual lighting show Euroluce's turn to run alongside. (And this was timely too because UNESCO has decreed 2015 the Year Of Light).
The numbers are always impressive: this year's fair had over 310,000 visitors and 2,106 exhibitors, with a further 700 designers/stores/galleries holding design events across Milan. Break that down and the Salone, the furniture section, had 1,504 exhibitors while Euroluce hosted 475 companies that make decorative, contract and safety lighting.
Euroluce
The lighting show is where you see new designs from the best contemporary brands, many of which are Spanish. Products are predominantly decorative but safety/contract lighting is also a growing segment of the fair.
Spanish manufacturers exhibiting included: Arturo Alvarez, B.lux, Bover, Vibia, Marset, LZF, Lladro and Santa & Cole.
Fuorisalone
Of course, much of the real fun.. the experimental design, exhibitions and swanky parties..happens in the galleries, design stores, studios and museums in Milan. And Spanish design and artistic input was, as always, much in evidence.
