DESIGN IN/FROM SPAIN
The Basque Country is renowned for gastronomy and it's recently added a new restaurant to its impressive stable, the Azurmendi restaurant
* The following article is an excerpt from Design in/from Spain magazine for smartphones and tablets.
Run by Eneko Atxa, who has three Michelin stars to his name, the restaurant is in the province of Vizcaya just outside Bilbao. It's housed in a spacious modern glass-walled building designed by architect Eguino Naia that offers glorious views over rolling green countryside. It's been built to high environmental standards, and the restaurant complex incorporates a greenhouse and an orchard on the roof, no less. No frozen fruit and veg here...
For interior floors and countertops, the architect opted for acres of basalt grey Neolith. It contrasts with pale natural wood used for doors, cupboard doors and some wall cladding, and gives a clean urban sophistication to the dining spaces.
