In 2015, it won both an iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award
This year, the Wing chair, designed by Barcelona-based studio Ramos & Bassols for the company Actiu, has received two prestigious, international awards given to the best examples of design unveiled the previous year.
The iF Design Awards are independent prizes which were launched by the German organisation iF in 1953. These have become one of the most coveted, international prizes since they represent excellence and quality in design. The Red Dot Design Awards were set up in 1955 and now, every year, design institution Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen honours the best products from all over the world. The prizes are presented in June at the Aalto Theater opera house in Essen, Germany. All the winning designs are displayed for a month at a special exhibition; they then become part of the Red Dot Design Museum for a year.
The Wing chair is seen as the natural technological progression of the traditional wooden chair — lightweight, portable, stackable and, especially in the case of its padded version, super-comfortable. Made using the most cutting-edge gas-injection technology, the resulting pieces are compact, light and highly resistant to any possible deformation.
Wing is the third Actiu product to have scooped the prestigious Red Dot award. In 2008, another winning design was the Plek chair — a new take on the folding chair — followed, in 2012, by the TNK A500 office chair. The last two pieces were dreamt up by the studio, Alegre Design.
Actiu is committed above all to good design, one of the most important drivers behind its success. The company has its own department, which develops all its projects following its global vision of excellent design and innovation in collaboration with experts in the fields of architecture, design and interior design
We integrate architecture, branding, and product design into one coherent, cross-cutting vision
