DESIGN IN/FROM SPAIN
* The following article is part of Design in/from Spain magazine for tablets and smartphones.
We tend to like to put people and things into categories/genres/types, as it makes us feel we know what we're dealing with. So when it comes to furniture and lighting, a lot of us feel that if a product comes from a 'contract furniture' company, then no way could it be brought into the home, and vice versa.
Of course no manufacturing company can do everything, but Madrid-based Imasoto doesn't subscribe to the view that a contract furniture company can't make products that have broad appeal. While a lot of its products are for the workplace market, it sees itself as designing highly functional and very stylish furniture that meets a need and can enhance users' lives whether they're at home, in the office or at leisure venues such as hotels.
But Imasoto, founded in 1969, does have a soft spot for the architecture industry because company founder Francisco Soto started the business designing furniture for architects. So Imasoto also has its AVP (Architect View Products, architectvp.com) range of pieces that are designed according to architectural principles.
