nanimarquina immerses us in a Far Eastern mood with its new collection Quill, created by Japanese designer Nao Tamura.
The Quill collection features organic forms and great subtlety dreamt up by Tamura. All the rugs are handmade, rendering each one unique, even though they all share the same natural look. The apparently simple rugs are inspired by a hand-drawn bird’s feather. Quill sees beauty in terms of the modest, rustic and imperfect. The Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, which celebrates imperfection, is a constant theme in Tamura’s work. The rug comes in three sizes in pastel tones — ivory, pale olive and stone green — and can be placed together to create inspiring pairings. ‘Like in nature where there are never two identical forms, each Quill rug has an individual character, just like every living creature,’ says Tamura.
nanimarquina was founded in 1987 by nanimarquina, whose goal was to design visually arresting rugs for people to enjoy. Since then, this family-run, Barcelona-based business designs and markets contemporary rugs that fuse the handcrafted and innovation in terms of techniques and materials. Internationally known designers collaborate with the company to create its pieces, ensuring a diversity of styles and experimentation in terms of textures, materials and forms. Since 2014, nanimarquina’s rugs can also be admired in the company’s New York showroom
